The Morgan Hill Unified School District will be presenting the “Be Seen and Heard” program to all TK-12 students. This program is presented in the interest of student safety and seeks to provide children an awareness and understanding of sexual abuse in age appropriate ways--and more importantly, how to respond.
The program is about an hour lesson with 4 brief follow up reminders throughout the rest of the year. Each school will be scheduling their initial presentations in November and will communicate those dates with their individual school communities.
The program is scaled appropriately to different grade levels to broach this sensitive topic. Links to previews of the age span topics can be found below. Parents are also encouraged to watch a brief video message from the author, Victor Pacini, regarding the program.
The “Be Seen and Heard” presenters have expanded their safety message to include age appropriate gun accidents and violence designed to provide students with awareness and “what to do if'' strategies. The messages are tailored to those circumstances most likely to affect young children, such as finding a gun that is improperly stored, or older students who might observe red flags in behaviors or online postings. That information is presented in a separate video in a program they call “Handle with Care.” Likewise, Sex-Trafficking Awareness and Prevention information is presented to middle and high school students as required.
The Be Seen and Heard program has been used in our district for a few years and parents with concerns, questions, or seeking more information are encouraged to speak with their principals or Glen Webb, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (webbgl@mhusd.org). Parents may “opt out” their children prior to the program being delivered by providing a note or email to their school. El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Morgan Hill presentará el programa “Be Seen and Heard" (sea visto y escuchado) a todos los estudiantes de TK-12. Este programa se presenta en el interés de la seguridad de los estudiantes y busca brindarles a los niños conciencia y comprensión del abuso sexual en formas apropiadas para su edad y, lo más importante, cómo responder.

Los presentadores de “Sea visto y escuchado” han ampliado su mensaje de seguridad para incluir accidentes con armas de fuego y violencia apropiados para la edad, diseñados para brindarles a los estudiantes conciencia y estrategias de “qué hacer si”. Los mensajes se adaptan a las circunstancias que tienen más probabilidades de afectar a los niños pequeños, por ejemplo encontrar un arma que no está guardada correctamente o estudiantes mayores que pueden observar señales de alerta en comportamientos o publicaciones en línea. Esa información se presenta en un video separado en un programa al que llaman "Manejar con cuidado". Asimismo, se presenta información sobre prevención y concientización sobre el tráfico sexual a los estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria según sea necesario.
El programa “Sea visto y escuchado” se ha utilizado en nuestro distrito durante algunos años y se anima a los padres con inquietudes, preguntas o que buscan más información a hablar con sus directores o con Glen Webb, Director de Currículo, Instrucción y Evaluación (webbgl@mhusd.org). Los padres pueden "optar por no participar" a sus hijos proporcionando una nota o correo electrónico a su escuela antes de que se entregue el programa.
