  Good Evening,
This week has been a whirlwind of awesomeness!  Thank you to all of you who volunteered the countless hours for the Book Fair (the school made a few thousand dollars to use towards books), arranged Open House food/auction/t-shirts and helped all week long to get the kids and families ready for next week's PANTHER PROWL!  Speaking of THE PANTHER PROWL, it is April 1st (next Friday)!  If you purchased signs please make sure to return them Monday to the front office so we can ensure they are ready for the route on Friday.

Leading up to Panther Prowl we will have several SPIRIT days.  Here are the days for next week:
Monday: PJ's
Tuesday: Crazy Hair Day
Wednesday: Crazy Sock Day
Thursday: Fandom Day! Favorite sports team, Disney character, whatever you are a fan of!
Friday: Panther Pride!

Schedule:
8-8:20: 1st grade: Cabrera, Clement, Potwin
8:30-8:50: Kinder: Belanger, Lewis
9:00-9:20: 4th grade: Bonino, Miller
9:45-10:05: 2nd grade: Grant, Neel, Wheatley
10:15-10:35: 3rd grade: Majors, Silva
10:40-11:00: 5th grade: Garcia, Gutierrez, Litvin

Please read the following updates:
-Please join us in welcoming Peggy Clark as our Speech and Language Therapist.  She has many years of experience and has already scheduled out all assessments and services for the remainder of the year.  This includes any make up minutes that need to be done.

- Lost and Found: We will be placing all Lost and Found items out front next Wednesday -Friday.  Any items left over on Friday will be donated.

-Student concerns: I have been hearing from 3rd-5th grade students the past two weeks about their worries.  I would love your help in chatting with your children at home about how they are feeling.  Many students brought up this week that they worry that we will have a World War soon.  Some kids have even asked me about where to hide to ensure safety.  I know as adults we want the kids to be kids and enjoy life, so I just want to ensure that you are aware that the kids are talking about it at recess and all over campus with each other.

To end on a positive note this week, we had over 300 people attend Open House last night!  It was great to see so many people here, kids playing, parents mingling, and teachers excited to show off the student work!  I look forward to many more community events.

Take Care,
Amber

"Be Seen & Heard" Program
LANAE BAYS

Be Seen and Heard

The Morgan Hill Unified School District will be presenting the “Be Seen and Heard” program to all TK-12 students. This program is presented in the interest of student safety and seeks to provide children an awareness and understanding of sexual abuse in age appropriate ways--and more importantly, how to respond.

The program is about an hour lesson with 4 brief follow up reminders throughout the rest of the year. Each school will be scheduling their initial presentations in November and will communicate those dates with their individual school communities.

The program is scaled appropriately to different grade levels to broach this sensitive topic. Links to previews of the age span topics can be found below. Parents are also encouraged to watch a brief video message from the author, Victor Pacini, regarding the program.

The “Be Seen and Heard” presenters have expanded their safety message to include age appropriate gun accidents and violence designed to provide students with awareness and “what to do if'' strategies. The messages are tailored to those circumstances most likely to affect young children, such as finding a gun that is improperly stored, or older students who might observe red flags in behaviors or online postings. That information is presented in a separate video in a program they call “Handle with Care.” Likewise, Sex-Trafficking Awareness and Prevention information is presented to middle and high school students as required.

The Be Seen and Heard program has been used in our district for a few years and parents with concerns, questions, or seeking more information are encouraged to speak with their principals or Glen Webb, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (webbgl@mhusd.org). Parents may “opt out” their children prior to the program being delivered by providing a note or email to their school. To help inform that decision, please view the video and look through the program overviews linked below. (“Opt outs” need to be renewed annually).

Be Seen and Heard
